How to choose the right size of snow boots for women?
Sorel has been manufacturing durable, high-quality winter footwear for decades. Our snow boots for women have been designed to provide all the features you have come to expect from a brand with superb knowledge, expertise and winter experience.
The materials of women’s snow boots are selected to provide warmth, protection and style. Our wide range of footwear for all winter activities keeps heat in and cold out with premium insulation. Each pair is also waterproof, and the soles provide ample traction on slippery surfaces.
Discover how to select the right size of snow boot or shoe by learning how to measure your feet accurately. You will also find out how they should fit and a few tests you can do to ensure they are comfortable.
Measuring guide
Correctly choosing snow boots begins with finding the right size. At Sorel, we recommend measuring your foot to accurately ensure your correct size. This will help streamline the process, whether you shop in-store or online.
First, stand on a flat piece of paper. Mark where your longest toe ends and the back of your heel. We recommend standing and wearing socks that are typical of what you would wear in your winter footwear.
Then, in centimetres, measure the length between the marks representing your longest toe and the back of your foot.
Once you have the measurement, use the chart found within the convenient size guides. These are located on Sorel’s website on the page for each boot. Our chart provides a length measurement corresponding to UK, EU and US sizes.
Pay close attention to the size guides for each pair. Sometimes, you will find a “size tip” that indicates whether the selected model runs larger or smaller.
How your snow boots should fit
Ultimately, how your snow boots should fit is a personal preference. However, we can provide some general advice so you can get the most comfort out of your winter footwear.
The first thing you need to consider is the amount of room your foot has inside the boot. Sorel winter footwear provides unbeatable warmth and breathability with our premium insulation. Your feet will remain protected with whichever pair of boots you choose. Some of our models include our built-in 100g – 300g fleece linings. Other style options feature a 6mm – 9mm removable felt liner.
Even with our outstanding protection, most people will gravitate towards wearing thick, warm socks during cold-weather conditions. That said, you should leave enough room for your socks and some air circulation. However, you should not have too much room either, as this can cause blisters. Essentially, you want your shoes to be snug without being overly tight.
Consider boots that feature our lacing system for greater control over the fit. A lace-up option allows you to wear them looser or tighter, while our slip-on styles will naturally fit more loosely.
Try before you buy
If you are shopping in-store, you can perform a few tests before you buy snow boots.
If your boots feature a lacing system, check the heel space before you tighten the laces. Do this by pushing your foot forward and feeling how much space you have around your heel. Ideally, room for one finger is enough. They may be too tight if you cannot comfortably fit one finger. If there is more room, consider a smaller size. You also do not want your foot to move up and down too much while walking because this can cause blisters.
After you have tightened or fastened your boots, gently tap a hard surface to confirm they are not too large. If your toes move to the top of your boot, they may rub while walking and you may need a smaller size.
Finally, try wiggling your toes. You should be able to do this easily. If there is any pressure on your toes or the broadest part of your foot, consider trying a larger size.
If you purchased your pair online, try these tests at home. Sorel's return policy lasts 30 days. If you need to change sizes, follow the instructions to return and order a new size.
Ensuring you have the right size will make the benefits of snow boots clear. Whichever pair you select from our many types of snow boots, you can trust that Sorel has created them with their unwavering commitment to quality and durability.
