What are the benefits of winter or snow boots?

Winter comes around quickly every year. Sometimes it sneaks up on us, other times, it arrives with force. Many of us might be tempted to grab a pair of shoes or boots from our closet and “make do”. However, these boots do not offer the same level of protection as winter or snow boots. Not only will your feet suffer, but so will footwear not designed for inclement weather.

For over 60 years, Sorel has manufactured shoes and boots perfect for cold and wet conditions. With our origins in Canada, it is safe to say we know and understand winter weather well. You can see our steadfast dedication to producing premium quality, warm, safe, and waterproof footwear in every pair we make. Discover why investing in a pair of winter or snow boots will ensure you can embrace any weather winter throws at you.

Warmth

Within Sorel’s collection, the warmth of our snow boots is unparalleled. Our designers create each pair to withstand a range of temperatures, from mild to frigid. These are also breathable, so your feet can stay warm without getting sweaty.

Many of our styles include 100g – 300g of built-in insulation, often made from cosy micro-fleece. These shoes are perfect for lighter snow and milder temperatures.

Other models feature a removable 6mm – 9mm lining, expertly designed to provide greater warmth and to keep the heat in and the cold out. Our boot liners are also sold separately. Lined snow boots are ideal for deep snow and the coldest temperatures.

Our winter boot selection also features faux fur or faux shearling cuffs, which offer additional warmth and help keep snow from sneaking in from the top. Many of our options also include a frost plug. These ensure no cold spots form where your foot makes the most contact with the boot (like the heel and balls of your feet).

Waterproofing

Staying warm is one thing; staying dry is another. If your feet do not stay dry, they are unlikely to stay warm. Fortunately, all of Sorel's types of snow boots offer both waterproofing and warmth.

We use the most durable and robust materials in the production of our footwear to ensure protection against moisture and water ingress. We make every upper from waterproof fabrics. These fabrics are natural, synthetic or a combination of both. Our natural fabrics include leather and suede. The synthetic materials we use are nylon or canvas.

Manufactured to keep feet dry during wet weather, every pair of snow shoes features a specially designed outsole. Many of our styles include seam-sealed waterproof construction. Others include handcrafted waterproof vulcanised rubber (the same material used to make some dry suits) or moulded rubber outsoles. You can rest assured that Sorel’s waterproofing is second to none and is guaranteed to keep water out on the wettest days, allowing your feet to stay dry.

Grip

Sorel’s snow boots feature specially designed treads that provide a protective grip on icy surfaces. Our soles deliver superb traction for all winter activities, whether for a snowy hike or commuting between home and work. Every pair can be considered slip-resistant snow boots.

Many of our styles include Sorel aero-trac non-loading outsoles, herringbone-design outsoles, high-traction rubber down the centre for better grip and multi-directional lug outsoles for enhanced traction. Others feature FEATHERTREAD™, DUOTREAD™ or EVERTREAD™ outsoles.

FEATHERTREAD™ outsoles are lightweight and deliver a steady grip. Moulded DUOTREAD™ rubber pods are perfect for both wet and dry conditions. EVERTREAD™ rubber outsoles provide our most exceptional grip and are most suited for uneven terrain.

The benefits of owning a pair of Sorel shoes, like from our collection of snow boots for women, are evident. They keep your feet warm and dry during the harshest winter weather. They also keep you safe by delivering superior grip on slippery surfaces. While choosing snow boots can be challenging, you can be confident that whichever pair you select, Sorel will ensure they provide you with the ultimate quality and to enjoy winter.
