Most of our styles combine natural and synthetic materials, optimised for comfort, protection and style. Many of our boots uppers (the part above the sole – sometimes called the shaft) feature natural suede, nubuck or full-grain leather. These long-lasting, natural materials are water resistant or waterproof, flexible and durable. Some of our boots use nylon, an excellent synthetic alternative that still allows the wearer to remain warm and dry. All of our materials provide superb protection against the many conditions that appear during winter.

The linings in many of our boots are removable and fashioned out of recycled felt with varying degrees of thickness. For a more lightweight touch, Sorel uses moulded EVA foam (or die-cut PU EVA-like foam) footbeds in some options.

The outsoles of our boots – the hard material at the bottom that contacts the ground when you walk – range from handcrafted vulcanised rubber to moulded rubber.

These thicker liners help to keep body heat in and freezing temperatures out. They also provide an additional level of cushioning, too.

Some boots feature faux fur or faux shearling cuffs, which will prevent snow from falling down the top of your boot. Not only that, but the cuffs are sure to add some animal-inspired flair to your chic winter wardrobe.

Every Sorel winter boot available includes waterproof uppers. Some even include additional seam-sealed construction. Many of our styles have outsoles that feature handcrafted, waterproof vulcanised rubber shells – the best for staying dry. This type of rubber is even used in the fabrication of some dry suits! Our other boots, comprised of moulded rubber, are still waterproof. These are better suited for being outside for shorter durations in lighter snow conditions.

While all of our snow boots (including our collection of rain boots) offer some level of water resistance, it is important to remember that when snow melts, it often refreezes. The ground can then become treacherous. Stay safe on slippery surfaces with our range of non-slip traction options. For those who will be venturing outside in more unfavourable, icy conditions, look for our treads that feature any of the following: multi-directional lug outsole for enhanced traction; Sorel aero-trac non-loading outsole; EVERTREAD™; or herringbone outsoles. For those who will be heading out into light snow for shorter trips, we offer high-traction rubber down the centre and moulded rubber, both offering a good level of grip protection.
